The week started with a few of our guys playing county championship bowls and an excellent game at Harlequins saw the Monmouthshire lads win by four shots. Mid Glamorgan 115 Monmouthshire 119. This result gives the lads a great chance to get to Llandrindod Wells having won two from two.
Tuesday started with the visit of the pupils of Penycwm school, a very rewarding experience for the children and our members alike, congratulations to all the members who helped make it possible especially Paula who made all the arrangements. Some of our guys then went off to Port Talbot for the second O60 championship match and again a very close affair ended with a narrow Monmouthshire victory. These guys also have two from two and our new team manager, Clive Williams, was well pleased with the spirit of the team.
Our ladies returned to evening league bowls too with a 9-1 win at Bedwellty Park. Wednesday saw us back in WML action and a home win over Abertillery by 10-4, great start to the season with two from two. Thursday was ladies afternoon league and they recorded a 8-2 win at Crickhowell. Friday was mixed league and we welcomed Blaina to the fort, a tough battle throughout before we took control in the final stages to record a 5-0 win, that puts us back in contention but a lot of bowls still to play in this competition. Saturday is our first full program with three matches and also our first PG league game of the season, a tough trip to Cardiff didn’t go as well as we would have liked and we suffered a heavy defeat but did manage to secure 2 points to 12. Bedwellty Park also took 12 points in our MBA match at Beaufort with our team again gaining 2 points. It turned out to be 2 point Saturday as the GBL team also got 2 points against Cwmbran Park, losing 8-2. Week 8 starts today as we hosts the ladies county match when Penyglyn take on South Wales and Mon, good luck to our ladies who are taking part.
